Michael Andrews
I sometimes think I was born drawing, anyway, I don't
remember being without some kind of pencil and paper.
After high school, I attended Kansas City Art Institute
before returning home to take a job as the staff artists for a
church furniture company where I designed the prayer
chapel for the New York World's Fair. I did freelance
artwork for newspapers, print shops, magazines and a
theme park, Dogpatch U.S.A. but it wasn't the type of art I
had in mind.
In 1984 Kay and I turned our attention, full time to fine art, commission work, portraits, painting the working
ranch cowboy and the culture of the Ozarks. We had little understanding of the complexities of the career
we were attempting, some knowledge of the commitment it demanded and very little idea of how to best
pursue it. With God's grace, hard work and a little luck, we have come a long way and learned a lot about
ourselves. I feel privileged to get up each day and create something that makes people smile.
Some of the places and shows we have exhibited are:
National Cowboy Symposium, Lubbock Texas,
Phippen Memorial Western Art Show, Prescott Arizona,
The Fine Art Guild of the Rockies, Estes Park, Colorado,
Working Ranch Cowboy Association, Amarillo Texas,
National Wildlife and Western Show, Overland Park Kansas,
Western Heritage Classic Art Show, Abilene Texas,
Cheyenne Frontier Days, Cheyenne Wyoming,
Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Fort Worth Texas,
The commission artist for Arkansas Ducks Unlimited,
Artist for the Arkansas Sheriffs' Association and
The winner of the first Will Rogers Award presented by the National Academy of Western Artists for the
Cowboy Artist of the Year.
Michael specializes in commission portrait work from photographs. As you can see from his samples
below, Michael's ability to capture the heart and soul of a subject is really special. Michael is perfect for
those who want to have a portrait done of that special family member without them knowing about the gift!
By the way, Michael is also fabulous when it comes to doing portrait work of your favorite animals! For more
information on Michael Andrew's work, call Michael at 870-743-5009! Michael and Kay are wonderful
people and I guarantee, you will enjoy visiting with them!
